The congress party(INC) in India always projects itself of being a secular(which i think means equality of all religions)party and also there temporary friend Left parties.Despite being a Hindu I never supported the current politics of BJP based on religion.
But after a recent experience I realized about the more dangerous non secular practices of congress party. Implementation of reservation, which is known to everyone, if looked from the lens of secularism is not justifiable at all and it is sarcastic that a party implementing reservation calls itself secular.
Consider an example: There is a group of friends who studied together, shared everything in life suddenly realize that some of their friends can get more benefits in life not because they deserved it but becuase these theings are reserved for them as they belong to some section of society.Think about the friction that will be generated in their relations because of this and the long term frustration in the society. The more serious implications will be the presence of non-competent people in important roles of the society.
In brief, I feel that the reservation policy of Congress is one step ahead of BJP.While the latter speaks of Hindus and Muslims but the former is sowing seeds to divide even the Hindus. So no one is secular either.
I agree with u..
ReplyDeletebut if a governement forces public to implement reservation then it should be based on actual judgemnt of family's financial status of individual not on his or her caste or tribe..
Short and Slick. Very good read.
ReplyDelete@abhijit: Think again about what you are saying. I think you did not get what the author was trying to say. There should be no reservation. The problem is not with the criterion of handing out reservation.

ReplyDeleteI think implementing reservation based on financial status may be better but the best solution will be no reservation in admission at all with special facilities to economically deprived students.
